In the early 2000s, the Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM) inaugurated a commuter rail line to make it easier for Candiac residents to travel to and from downtown Montreal. Five years later, in 2005, the Candiac Station pilot project was brought to life. Later, in 2009, the RTM confirmed the implementation of permanent public transit facilities. In this light, Autoroute 30 opened to traffic in December 2012, making Candiac one of the region’s most accessible cities.

In December 2011, the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) adopted a metropolitan land use and development plan (PMAD) which provides for a certain space ratio for land development and the densification of future residential projects. A TOD area was therefore established for Candiac Station and its future development. The City of Candiac was chosen by the CMM within the PMAD to undertake an innovative project for Candiac’s TOD area. The City is set on creating a harmonious project of the utmost quality, focused on promoting sustainable development practices such as bioretention for rainwater management, and construction standards in line with sustainable development principles. The result? Added value for existing and future properties, including KAÏA townhouses, and steadfast adherence to such targeted requirements.
